birding-great-bendBEST WESTERN Angus Inn Outdoor Adventures

From the serene waters of the Arkansas River to the stunning sight of a sea of golden wheat, outdoor enthusiasts will find there’s so much to see, do and explore while staying at this Great Bend, KS hotel, including:

  • Cheyenne Bottoms
  • Quivira National Wildlife Refuge
  • Kansas Wetlands Education Center
  • Stone Lake
  • Veteran’s Lake
  • Arkansas River
  • Wetlands & Wildlife National Scenic Byway

Cheyenne Bottoms – just five miles from our property – is the perfect spot for both hunters and bird watchers, as it alone attracts close to half of North America’s shore birds each year. Over 58,000 acres of public hunting areas are within driving distance of BEST WESTERN Angus Inn, including Quivira National Wildlife Refuge, which is just 25 miles away.

Both Cheyenne Bottoms and Quivira National Wildlife Refuge offer hiking trails for all levels of experience. Enjoy paddling on the sparkling waters of Stone Lake, Veteran’s Lake, Cheyenne Bottoms and the Arkansas River. Or, see the river by land by biking on the seven-mile paved levee trail that runs along it.

The best way to take in all of the area’s fantastic scenery? Take a drive along the Wetlands & Wildlife National Scenic Byway. The 77-mile byway connects two of the world’s most significant natural wetlands – Cheyenne Bottoms and Quivira National Wildlife Refuge. On the ride, you’ll see waving wheat fields and thousands of shorebirds in flight.
